First and most importantly, stay as calm as possible. When you initially took out your policy you should have received a claims packet that contains important documents and phone numbers. ALL the auto insurance carriers have 24 hour, 7 day a week claim reporting services. You should contact them as soon as possible.
After you report the claim, it will assigned to a trained and experienced professional called an adjuster. They will assign you a claim number and give you phone numbers where you can reach them to follow up on your claim. He will make every attempt to get your car and most importantly your life back in order as soon as possible. This includes arranging a rental car, (if coverage is available), and assisting you in choosing a qualified body shop to fix your car. They will answer any questions you have and if you have any further questions or problems you can always contact our office.
Important Info:
You are not required by law to get more than one estimate.
You are not obligated to use any particular shop to obtain repairs. You choose the shop and you authorize the repairs.
You do not have to accept the insurance company's appraisal of damage. Check the "Appraisal Clause" in your policy to learn how to resolve any differences.
You are responsible for the cost of repairs. Financial arrangements must be completed before the car can be released.
There is a big difference between shops. Any shop can give a lower price by leaving something out or using inferior parts. Our people are craftsmen who will do a good job of repairing your car at a fair price.
Total Loss: When the cost to repair a vehicle rises above the cost to replace it, an insurance company will declare that vehicle a "total loss". If it is determined that you have a “total loss,” you are entitled to receive what it costs you to replace your car. In other words, you have the right to be paid the full value of your car plus all applicable sales tax and tile transfer fees. Your insurance company will arrange for a salvage company to pick up your vehicle, and arrange payment, if any, to the repair facility.
